I am not a good rule follower. Yet, I want to do things by the book. But then I end up being a rebel because I think the rules are dumb. I get sick of listening to people tell me how to do things. I think I might have an issue with authority figures. Hmm.
Blogging Rules to Break
One of the things I decided to rebel against is this whole blogging mindset that is aimed at getting subscribers. I decided I’m going to take down the password on my freebies page. I have to set aside a day to do this, but look for that upcoming. I don’t need to bribe people to follow me. I hope they will, but offering freebies just comes off as cheap to me. I don’t know. I know everyone does it, but I think it’s pretty lame. You can have my freebies and you don’t need to subscribe. I just hope you do come back 😉 (I’ll be fixing this soon–it’s still password protected right now, but in the next few days I’ll fix it.)
Home Decor and Indecision
I felt a bit like Jeckyl and Hyde this week. I decided I wanted to paint my office which also is used as a school area and also is a small family room. The room is a bit of a mystery, but I mostly use it for work. The entire process was one of indecision. I wanted to pick a color that was bold, but then I second guessed myself (I do that a lot) and got samples of colors I don’t even get why I picked. Then my last sample was dark gray and I absolutely loved that. I repainted the woodwork white (from an ugly golden oak color). I’m waiting for my husband to put up all the light switch covers, the white shade, and the white molding around the window. So this time next year, it might be done (hardy har).
Rule the World by Changing Your Decor
Here’s the before picture with the vanilla walls that haven’t been painted in 13 years. You should’ve seen all the dents and scratches and little doodles from my kids (I had a moment of sentimentality over a little drawing my son did on the wall. Sniff, sniff).
Here’s my color choice (after several failed attempts):
And here’s a photo of the finished wall and white window (that still needs moldings!):
One Thing Leads to Another
My husband has a bad habit of seeing me fix stuff and then wanting to REDO the entire room. There is no such thing as JUST painting or JUST changing out the decor in his world. He wants to now rip up the floor. I secretly don’t want to wait for him to put the floor back in place. He’s a chronic procrastinator but he also is a perfectionist so one little mistake and he sits there for hours trying to fix it. I can’t beat him up too much as I am also a perfectionist, but when it comes to maintenance, I’m very much a person who says, “good enough!” and leaves it be. I’m trying to convince him the floor can stay.
Anyway, I ended up getting some yellow throw pillows and a throw blanket with yellow, turquoise, white, and gray to match the theme of my room. And I decided to get some other stuff on Amazon. I was having trouble with the artwork aspect of the room. I could make my own art, but I’m lazy. Plus I like to be inspired by other people’s stuff. So far, all I got is those wall decals, a few more pillows, and this cool Icicles Chandelier that hangs from the ceiling:
People on Amazon swear this thing is awesome, but basically it’s a party favor. With my luck, I’ll break another rule and join the haters club. But I’m gonna give it a whirl. Once I get my room to where I like it, I’ll show you some pictures of the final product. I wanted to create a space that was more creative instead of just boring walls and white decor. That desk and dark rug need to go. It’s a work in progress, but I’m getting there.
